Medical Training Models

Overview

In the 3DI lab, I modified multiple models to make manufacturing easier or to improve certain features of the model.

1) Abscess Model

The previous model was difficult to manufacture repeatability and had varying thicknesses. I designed a new mold that made it easier to make and kept a uniform thickness. I did this by creating the model in Solidworks and 3D printing the molds.

2) Uterus Model

The uterus model needed to be constructed but the mold was missing parts. I created parts to re-use the previous mold to not waste material. The final construction can be seen below.

3) C-Section Model

While making the models, I encountered many problems with the balloon ripping. This occurred frequently while the baby was being inserted into the balloon or when the model was being taken out of the jar.

To alleviate this, I altered the jar to make the egress of the model easier and less likely to break the balloon.

For future iterations, a mechanism to open the neck of the balloon to stretch around the jar will make the manufacturing process easier and simpler.
