Neon Sign

I wanted to create a sign that used led lights but felt like a neon sign. To do this, I needed to create the image with a single line. I made the drawing in Illustrator with the thickness of the lights I was using. I then created an outline of the image to be cut with a laser cutter.

Originally, I was going to use 1/2" acrylic and use the ShopBot to create the channels, but I was scared that the ShopBot would break the finer details of the piece (also 1/2" acrylic is really expensive). I went with 1/4" acrylic since that was the maximum size cut the laser cutter was able to handle.

I then added the lights into the channels and then soldered two 12V-5A power supplies since the whole piece required around 100 W of power. To further secure the lights, I added clear silicon caulk around the lights.
